I am interested in how wood ages, often contrasting new and old wood. The old wood contains its history. I see the scars of worm holes, decay, peeled paint showing the life of the wood. The new wood offers the luminosity of wood grain, and how milled planks will reveal the grain when stained, painted, and sanded through. The grain marks the life of the wood. I see the beauty of both – how age and the patina of life leaves a mark and how the fresh wood sometimes seems to shimmer with energy and offers something new. By bringing this contrast together I am hoping to make the old and new more observable.
